Titans’ Todd Downing addresses DUI charge, calls arrest ‘devastating’

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing spoke to the media for the first time since his arrest last Thursday.

Downing was arrested after Tennessee’s 27-17 win Thursday night Green Bay Packers At Lambeau Square.

“My actions or anything that I’m involved in could bring negative attention or distraction to this organization, Miss Amy (Adams Strunk) and the front office and coach (Mike) Vrabel,” he said. Downing said Wednesday.

Downing did not elaborate on the specifics of the arrest, declining to say whether he had been drinking at the facility or on the team’s plane.

“I understand how sensitive and troubling this subject is, and I can’t understand how painful it must be for some people who have been involved in similar situations,” Downing added.

Ahead of the Titans’ matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed that Downing will remain the team’s offensive coordinator.

“We’re going to continue the way things have been with Todd as our offensive coordinator,” Vrabel said.

Vrabel told reporters the organization offers transportation to players and coaches, something Downing is aware of, but declined to comment Wednesday on why he didn’t choose that option.

“I can’t get into the specifics of that night,” Downing said.
