sensex today: Stock Market LIVE Updates: Sensex flat, Nifty at 18,500; PB Fintech gains 3%, Easy Trip Planners falls 2%

Sensex Today Live: Indian stocks opened slightly lower on Friday after benchmarks closed at record highs in the previous session as investors digested mixed signals from global central banks on the interest rate environment.

The equivalent of the Federal Reserve’s rate-setting committee minutes released by the European Central Bank on Thursday showed that room to slow the pace of interest rate adjustments remains limited, in contrast to the US central bank’s assessment.

The Nifty IT Index fell 0.4%, with seven of the 10 constituents falling in today’s session. The index gained more than 2.6% and was the best sector gain on Thursday.

The Nifty Bank Index jumped to a new record high of 43,192.90 in early trading, while the Public Sector Banks Index climbed 0.85%, extending its rally for the ninth consecutive day.

The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 indices outperformed their larger peers, increasing by 0.33% and 0.47%, respectively.

Asian markets were mixed, with the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index shedding 0.30% as surging COVID-19 infections in China dimmed hopes of the world’s second-largest economy reopening.

US markets were closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday as the dollar slid to a three-month low.

Rollovers for Nifty/Bank-Nifty stood at 82% (~1.2cr OI)/88% (~32lakh OI). FIIs remained net buyers of index futures, however they trimmed their stock futures positions in the November series. Nifty is likely to complete its pending upside moves and consolidate in the upper band, provided the support at 18200 is strongly held. The media sector saw a higher rollover, the build-up of shorts in ZEEL and closing longs in Suntv will likely attract underperformance and limit upside potential. In the cement space, JK cement and Dalmia cement rallied more than ~10% with a rollover of more than 90%; the throwback in these stocks is a buying opportunity. Textile inventories saw a brief build-up.
